Taronga Zoo’s – Chimpanzee Enclosure

Colbros were awarded the design and construct electrical contract for the new Chimpanzee enclosure and night house at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo.

During the design phase of this project all care had to be taken so as to design a facility capable of withstanding the day to day use offered by its future inhabitants. All electrical infrastructure was to be concealed or placed out of reach.

The use of strategically placed hot rocks (artificial heated rocks) was used to provide ‘more enticing’ places for the chimpanzees to sit and play so as to encourage them to be more visible and in the public eye.

Our scope of work included design, certification, commissioning, installation of lighting, lighting control systems, power, main switch board upgrade works, distribution boards, fire detection, security, access control, CCTV, intercom, audio visual, communications and data systems, as well as the installation of ‘hot rocks’, electric ‘hot wire’ fencing and electric ‘hot grass’.
